Baba / The story of Cristiano and his Basketball

Baba is Cristiano's basketball. She came to our lives in Brooklyn, days after everybody's world turned upside down due to the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020.

It took a few clicks on Amazon, plus $7.99, and the next day it arrived at our home. I must admit it was hard for me to understand why he loved a basketball over the Soccer ball.

But the joy that Cristiano got from this little Basketball, running around the court in McCarren Park, Williamsburg is a memory that will stay with me forever.

When the pandemic became a reality, jobs started to cancel and we decided to go to Colombia overnight for what we thought was going to be a short period of time.

We packed just a few things and Baba was an indisputable candidate to come with us.

Today, April 18th, 2020, it has been a month in which the three of us plus baba, have been in a permanent lockdown on an Airbnb in Bogota.

Every day we have Basketball sessions with Cristiano. After, Baba becomes a Soccer Ball for us to practice ( each day he kicks the ball better ).

Baba also is a great companion for a looong Youtube sessions. On sunny days, we turn the shower into playing and cleaning sessions with Baba in which, without complaining she receives long and soapy baths by Cristiano.

During snacks and dinner time, baba is always a VIP guest.

Like everyone else, our future is uncertain. As of today, we don't know when we will be able to go back to Brooklyn. But we stay positive and try to make the most of our days.

These are tough times for everybody, I'm sure this experience will create unforgettable memories. Despite the down side of this situation, I will always remember the Basketball mornings.

I am looking forward to the day the 3 of us plus Baba can step into the McCarren Basketball CT again and see Cristiano's face when he and Baba can run around hoping to score impossible hoops, a few blocks from home.
